Quote by emilamiIn any programming area, I think reference guides are useful. I tend to
learn more by example, though... I've always preferred to disect code
and figure out what it does (after I learn some of the basics) and go
from there. Then, I often keep my old code around to build off of.

I'm alot like that too. I have to have some kind of command reference while learning a language, because i cant stand not knowing exactly how a command works, and the guide I am learning from just suddenly shows some new way to use a command, it makes me feel a little confused and not in control when programming.

Quote by emilamiThat's why I could never work in forums, myself... I hate SQL. I
understand how important and useful it is, but it's a pain.

i can understand how you feel. SQL has such weird syntax compared to modern languages, and its not even portable across different database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL, mssql, etc) like it should be. i can deal with writting in SQL code, but I need a reference. I usually prefer an abstraction layer to make it easier and clearer to deal with in my programming.

Quote by emilamiWhen I asked him about it, he said to try SimpleMachines
(though, I'm not sure if it still has a free version).

ah, yeah, looks pretty cool. The problem with that is, it only supports MySQL, and I use PostgreSQL. It is free though.
